I've only read the first book, and seen the first movie. It was okay, a good read...but I don't really have the driving need to read the rest.
The characters were more cute than deep, though charismatic and attractive. The story did keep me involved, and I did want to know what happened next.
I didn't think it was something I would want my 12 year old niece to read, though her 12 year old friend thought it was great.
There is a wide range of readers, from very young, to not so young, and everyone seems to like it.
I might be more inclined to watch the upcoming movies, as the movie itself seemed to be very well done. They followed the book well, and had decent effects.
I enjoy watching movies that come from books, and I was not disappointed in how the book was portrayed.
